Puerta de Santa Maria, Cadiz

Staying at a site with full facilities means we have to make use of them all!

Before going out yesterday we needed to do the washing and hang it all out to dry as we’re leaving on Saturday. After a bit of research into options for bike rides, we decided to take the van to Medina-Sidonia for a late lunch and afternoon walk.

We returned just in time to ride the bikes to our booked tasting at the Bodega Gutiérrez Colosíaa. The guide, waiter and chef provided us with an excellent tour, tasting and tapas to finish off another great day! Highly recommended at just €32 per head.

Today is our last day here and we’d decided to ride the bikes to Cadiz, returning on the ferry. Bev had misread the timetables though and the times didn’t work out. Instead Steve found a circular route, mostly on cycle tracks by the main roads to the salinas and small Parque Natural de la Bahia Cadiz. After cycling the full length on a very well made trail and climbing the observation tower Steve suggested riding back along the beach. Bev wasn’t too sure but the sand was just right for riding all the way with the crunching of small shells as we pedalled along. After a beer at a beach bar, we returned to the van. Steve went back into town with Pete, John and Claire to watch the rugby at an Irish Bar while Bev joined Sarah to do some painting and sketching.
