Florence: a tower, tickets & a garden

On our walk towards the station on Friday we were interested to find the unusual Gothic Orsanmichele Church and Museum, originally built to house the city grain market with the oratory now tucked inside what had been the loggia. Climbing the tower now housing the museum gave a great view across the city. We then called at the station ticket office as Bev wanted to sort reservations for the train tomorrow, Saturday 21 March. We’ve decided to go to Vienna, which is a long way to go without reserved seats if it’s busy! Took a bit longer than hoped, but the Trenitalia staff are very helpful.

After our long day yesterday we took a bus for the princely sum of €1.20 each to the Roman Gate entrance of Boboli Gardens. Strolled up the slopes to the top for views across the city and a chance for some sketching and relaxing in the formal gardens. On our way back along the river, we found the Central Library, undergoing extensive renovations. Wandered down for spritz at the corner cafe, an interesting conversation with three Canadians and a last stroll in Santa Croce square.

Returned to Il Pizzaiolo for our last meal here and went back to the hotel to pack ready for our early start in the morning.
