Thursday 19 March and another new city! Popped down to the square for our breakfast at the corner cafe, la Finisterrare using the vouchers from our host: lovely croissants, fresh orange juice and excellent coffee.
Spent the whole day wandering around exploring this amazing city – so many fantastic buildings it’s almost too much to take in!! We had no plan and didn’t have a city map so just marvelled at each street or square we came upon. We crossed the Arno River over the Ponte Vecchio, originally built in 1345 and crowded with tourists, peeping into the expensive jewellery shops.
The Uffizi Museum of Art had of course been on the list of places to visit and we finished off the day with a couple of hours going in at the ‘cheap rate’ after 4pm. According to Strava, we walked nearly 8 miles and were pretty exhausted on returning to the hotel! Found a good restaurant for supper and had an early night to recover.
